Once upon a time,
there was a schoolboy walking home from school. On the way, there was a car accident scene, odd because that road was a quiet and short one, on which only the occasional visiting car or delivery truck travelled. There was something else that was strange - only some police officers and an unfortunate pedestrian’s corpse were at the scene. There were no witnesses, no driver. Something white caught the schoolboy’s eye as he walked past the wreckage. It was a photo of a strangely beautiful girl. She was holding up two fingers in a ‘twix’ sign and wearing a sweet smile. The boy brought the photo home.
He placed the photo at his bedside before going to sleep. In the dead of night, the sound of fingernails tapping on glass woke him up. The girl in the photo was outside his window. The boy flew into panic, grabbing the photo and ran out the house without thinking much. He glimpsed the girl standing at the front door (or it might have been his imagination). He backed away. As he set foot on the road, a silent, speeding car headed for him. The next second, his mangled, lifeless body was lying on the road, along with the photo.
A schoolgirl was walking past the car accident scene the next day, something white on the ground caught her eye. It was a photo of a beautiful girl, holding up three fingers and wearing a sweet, but somewhat menacing, smile.
[now we could not live without it]
